Anatomy Scan Anxiety

Sam

Disclaimer: long ramble ahead.

Had our second anatomy scan this week because baby was being stubborn at 19 weeks and wouldn’t move in the right spot. Yesterday at 23 weeks baby was being stubborn again but in a different position. The one thing that was consistent was that both Tec’s couldn’t see past baby’s left forearm. So we’re getting referred to a high risk maternal fetal medicine doctor for another scan to see if they’re just missing it or if baby doesn’t have part of their arm.

Freaking out a little bit because everything has been perfectly “normal” and fairly easy for my first pregnancy. Trying very hard not to think in terms of “normal” and if baby has something “missing” because all of their other structures like heart, brain, spine, organs are all exactly how they should be so far. So if baby’s hand isn’t there it’s something we can totally overcome. Husband has been amazing about it so far, not worried at all and is just like “they’ll be the first one armed NHL player then 🤷🏼‍♂️”.

Sorry for the long rant, I haven’t talked to anyone outside of husband yet about it because I’m trying not to dwell and I know my family will go waaaaay far into it and I just don’t want to go there until I know for sure. I just needed to shout into the void so thank you if you read this far 🙏🏼

Edit/Update: baby’s left arm stops about halfway down the forearm. Normal upper arm and functional elbow but past that nothing. There’s also some extra abnormalities that we’re getting additional testing for. It just keeps coming apparently.
