Is a baby room/nursery important?

I am 22+5 and have been battling on whether to do a nursery or not. 
We have a bedroom free but my husband wants to keep it as a guest room for visitors or family members. He says the baby will sleep in our room with us until the baby turns 1 or 2. 
We are both first time parents. 
Do we need a baby room?

I’m not doing one! Baby will be in our room because we need a guest bedroom and my husband needs a private office to work from home. Do what works best for you - don’t let other people’s “should”s influence you!

Do you NEED to do a full extravagant nursery? No. But having a crib in the other room for when you want to transition your baby in his own room is very nice. Some people do have their babies sleep in their room for the first year, and if it works for them that’s great. But sometimes you are ready to transfer baby in his own room, in my experience (I have 3 kids and am expecting my 4th) they always started to sleep better and through the night once in their own room. You can still use room as a guest room but with a crib in their. And if you have guests just have baby sleep in your room for the time being. So no, you don’t need a fully decorated or dedicated nursery, but using the extra room for baby to sleep in when you are both ready, is VERY nice...I would say necessary, but technically you “can” have baby just share a room with you for as long as you *want* but if baby doesn’t sleep good at night, and putting him in his own room can help, I say do it. Your sleep and sanity is important as a mother. Plus, have that hour/s to yourself at the end of day can really be helpful for your mental health.

My son slept in a pack n play in our room for 10 months. He honestly did not start completely sleeping through the night (and neither did I) until we moved him into his crib in his own room. You may be lucky and end up with a child who sleeps wonderfully and is easy to wean off of night time bottles/feeding, but for us we valued having the ability to read in the bed or have personal time in the evenings without tip toeing around a sleeping baby, not to mention that his sleep improved once we got him in his own room. That was more important to us than the few times a year we have guests, especially since you’ll be transitioning that space to a child’s room at some point anyway. It may make the transition later in toddlerhood easier if your child already feels safe and happy in their own room. At the end of the day, it’s totally your preference ❤️ There is no right or wrong way and you can always convert the room after you have your baby if you decide to try a different approach.

We had my daughter in our room until she was 6 months, after which she moved to her own room. Same will go with number 2. So won't have separate nursery room. We're hoping to fit then into the same room when #2 turns 6 months as well.

Your husband will soon change his mind when he sees how much noise a baby makes when they sleep 😆. I moved our soon into his own room at 3 months, cause he was like a dinosaur. He even slept better in his own room.

My first didn’t start sleeping through the night until we moved him into his own room so for me it’s a must at around the 6 month mark to at least start getting some sleep. When he was close to us he never slept. And honestly babies have a lot of stuff.. and I can’t stand clutter so he needed his own space. But it all just depends on what you want.

We are just because babies have a lot of crap. We did with my daughter too even tho she didn't sleep in there right away it gave us somewhere to put all her stuff. Our rooms are not very big tho so if you have a large master bedroom maybe it wouldn't be a problem to have it all in your room

Have the necessities but a full in nursery isn’t needed. Have a crib, maybe a bassinet, pack and play, items like that and you’ll be fine. In my bedroom we have the crib with the attached changing table. Pack and play in the living room and bassinet right next to my bed. We may not do a nursery. The room really matters when she’s ready to sleep on her own.
