Why do people dislike the name Waylon?

I’m from PA, never heard of anyone by the name Waylon until after I was considering it.. met a five year old with the name from a high class family. Then heard of like three more who were just born.. it makes me think of Waylon Jennings/a country boy. Others seem to find it to be a gross sounding name or a trashy hillbilly name or there’s the reference to the Simpsons, which I also hadn’t realized. People have said it sounds like “wailing” too. Is it really that bad? Would you just immediately think ew or weird if you heard the name?

To me, my husband’s choice of Caleb has an icky sound to it.. sounds like Kayla if you say it too fast and the “lub” sound at the end is just ew to me. But everyone seems to like the name Caleb better. All I like about it is the meaning/Bible story.

I keep trying to convince myself to get off of the name Waylon and like the name Caleb, but it never lasts long.. and I know I should name my kid whatever I want and not worry about what people think, but I don’t want my son to have a name that’s a target for bullying or people just immediately “ew” over ya know lol. Help me!
