Tips, have they reached their ceiling?

Question

So current understood tip is like 18-20%, thats understood to be standard. 
Where does it go from here? Will standard tips get higher? Do you see a day where you pay 25% as standard? Or is that never going to come.

I’d like to see livable wages, higher food/beverage prices, and no tips.

We have good minimum wage in Australia and tips are reserved for exceptional service. When I was working as a barista getting zero tips my income was higher than my first office job (because of weekend time and a half and that kind of thing). Which absolutely makes sense - reflecting the hours worked and the physical toll on the body. 
I would love it if the US and any other tip based economies would sort out their minimum wage. Humans should be paid fairly for their work - they shouldn't have to rely on the goodwill of the tip economy.

I regularly tip over 20%. I feel for people who have to depend on this system. Also, may be slightly off topic, but I don’t understand all the complaints about tipping for carry out. It’s literally a few extra dollars… it’s not going to break the bank. If it was, you wouldn’t be ordering out. Why bitch about helping people out, especially during this pandemic. Idk. I just feel like people are cheap and try to cover it up as “well they’re not doing anything besides putting my food in the bag.” Whatever lol.

Well seeing that living wages aren't likely to happen anytime soon, yes I feel that the standard should rise a bit. Cost of living has gone up dramatically and in the greater scheme of things, a couple of extra bucks isn't going to hurt you as the consumer who can obviously afford to eat out to begin with.

Standard has been 20% for as long as I can remember. While many people are being more generous during the pandemic, because everything is basically on fire, I don’t think it’s become an expectation to tip a larger percentage.

I was a waitress for 5 years. All during college plus two additional years because I couldn’t afford the pay cut to stop waiting tables and start my career as a teacher. I’ve since lived overseas the past 7 years (5 years Australia, 2 in England) and I’m telling you that the USA is not prepared to shift from tips to wages. 
The level of service is completely different when tips aren’t the main source of income. And that’s not to say people are lazy that’s to say people are human and it makes complete sense. Americans will turn it into a whole thing about lower income people being lazy and unappreciative and I can see the Fox News headlines now.
The wage system in America is broken. Here in Australia it is the LAW to pay everyone on hourly wages time and a quarter on Saturdays and time and a half on sundays/holidays. Good luck getting wait staff to work Saturday nights busting their ass when they could work Tuesday lunch for the same pay.

I was always taught 10% as a standard tip, 20% for exceptional service. That being said, I usually tip 20% or more unless there is a good reason because I used to be in a service based job where I lived off my tips and I “get it”. I doubt it’s going to ever be a standard to go higher though.
