I just found out from several friends that my current boyfriend made a comment along the lines of “I only date someone uglier than me to control them.”. When I came to him to have a conversation about it he deflected and said something like “That isn’t what I said but intellectually speaking I’m on a different level than these people and most of the people I talk to, so it doesn’t surprise me they didn’t understand my true meaning.“. Honestly the thought of him saying something remotely close to that makes my stomach hurt because I’ve always struggled with self-image issues. He then told me I’m easy to manipulate and control because I’m believing our friends over him when we are supposed to have trust.

Messy situation.
