How to tame a toddlers hair?

My daughters hair is a curly birds nest. I try to style it but it doesn’t really hold up. What is best for curly hair?

My SIL has the problem with her daughter and I know she uses a lot of detangler they have kids versions. I believe you should only brush it when wet doing so when it's dry will just make it worse.

My girl has long Goldilocks curls and we use the Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus line, only combing when wet, and doing a light comb after bath with leave in conditioner. We also only wash 2-3x a week. Usually 2.

Have to use some sort of conditioner every day.  Also I don't wash it every day.  We use a spray on conditioner and we also use Shea butter.  Use a pick to comb.  And only when conditioned.  I honestly tried the little silicone bands for pony tails but it didn't stay.
