Has anyone else experienced BV going away and then coming back while in the middle of a prescription to treat it?

I just finished a prescription for Metronidazole after struggling with having undiagnosed BV for months (so you can imagine my relief when a doctor finally told me what’s wrong). I had to take it twice a day for 7 days. I was pretty consistent with the time taking it. I started noticing relief around the second day already and I was so happy. The smell was starting to go away and there was no more itchiness. But yesterday morning the itching came back and by last night the smell had also returned. I’m at a complete loss for words. I don’t know how fast this stuff is supposed to work but if it had started to go away why would it come back before I even finished my medication? I have some over the counter suppository creams for BV at hand that I may use if I don’t notice any more changes but if neither of these things work what else am I supposed to do? Does it take a lot of time for it to clear up? Is there any history of it not working? Any info would be great!
