is this cultural appropriation?

On 11-17-2021 my grandfather passed away. He was my inspiration in life, the reason I have my passions in science and art. On my birthday, ( dated below the picture, ) him and I created a tattoo. Originally I just wanted a skull, but the further we got into it the more creative we got. I thought about everyone in my family putting hidden hearts throughout the tattoo. At the end, to me it looked like a pirate skull. 
I’m thinking about getting a tattoo in remembrance of him, but I realized that this kind of resembles a Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead skull. Día de los Muertos is a holiday celebrating the deceased loved ones that, correct me if I am wrong, originated in Mexico. It is a beautiful celebration, and a beautiful way to celebrate the dead. As much as I love this tattoo, I don’t want to get a tattoo that’s supposed to be meaningful to me, to upset and offend others. 
Please let me know your opinions, I want to know if getting this tattoo in any way is going to be offensive, and if so, I will use some of the other ideas I have. :)

as a mexican i give you the go ahead, as long as it’s not disrespectful to the culture and you know the significance behind it, it’s fine.

There would be millions of things you do that is done in other cultures and because of that you shouldn’t stop doing it. You designed it it’s yours it’s just a cute skull there is nothing in the skull that says hey look at me I’m trying to take over a Hispanic holiday I’m Dominican and we celebrate the day of the dead and I am telling you this is ok and at the end of the day girl it’s your body and no one else’s

I am not Mexican so this is just a thought. Even if it was día de Los muertos I am not sure Mexicans are sensitive about seeing the imagery used by others. My impression is that using skulls to memorialize loved ones is seen as cultural appreciation. If I spoke to Mexican friends and they approved, I could consider getting a tattoo for my late sister. I love día de Los muertos and my birthday falls on the day too
