Do you mind people giving hand me downs?

I personally don’t like it when people give me hand me downs for our son without asking. I feel forced or obligated to have my child where someone’s used clothes.

The concept is sweet. They’re coming from a good place but I had one family member that kept giving me bags and bags of her coworkers child’s clothes (that REEKED of nicotine). I used a few after washing them but eventually they’re going to be tossed or donated. Just more work for me to do.

Again I don’t mind the concept of hand me downs. I’m not trying to come of snooty. We have used items and we don’t only buy new clothes all the time (wouldn’t be a problem if we did it’s a personal preference not a crime). But I just rather have new items for my child unless they’re from their sibling or something.
