Is a pack n play necessary?

Question

I am trying really hard to avoid buying extra gear that will not get used and will just take up space. I’m having a hard time understanding why a pack n play is necessary. This is my first so I very well could be very wrong. The plan is the baby will sleep in a bassinet and then move to their crib. I know people have them downstairs and lay the baby in there while they’re downstairs but can’t I do the same thing with the swing and the bouncy seat? And the bassinet since it’s portable.

Get a pack n play with bassinet insert instead of a bassinet. More versatile for future use. If you ever travel the pack n play is nice. My daughter used one when traveling up until she turned 2.

I have only ever used a pack and play when I traveled at 17months old to visit family, so we just borrowed one. I also never used a swing and never used a bouncy seat except once or twice in such a way that it was meant to keep him there 😂 we set up our living room to be as completely child safe as possible. It’s blocked with gates so he couldn’t crawl somewhere unsafe. Floor time is the most beneficial thing as they’re learning to roll and crawl and walk!

If you plan on traveling with baby, get a pack n play. If not, there's definitely no need.

If you ever plan on having baby sleep over anywhere besides your home, then I would suggest getting one. I used my mini pack n play until my youngest was 2.5 whenever she would have sleepovers with her grandpa

We didn't get a pack n play but our parents both had one for when we visited. My son grew out of it very quickly anyway, so it wasn't needed for that long. I'd say skip the pack n play and just use your bassinet

I would get a pack and play instead of a bassinet. The pack and play can be used for longer and is portable.

I like the pack and play because baby can be in it a lot longer than other bassinets. It’s also great for travel. 
We opted to get the cheapest pack and play that doesn’t have the bassinet insert, which I’m glad we did

I didn’t use a pack n play very much with my first except when we travelled.  I tried to put him in one on our main level to be able to cook and clean but he often would just end up screaming and I did more baby wearing. 
With my second, we used it a lot more because he slept in one for 7 months due to not having a room for him until we moved when he was 7 months old.  We also had a second one on the main level so I had a safe place to put him down since my first was only 2 years old and was a little rough with him at first so I needed somewhere safe to put him down when I needed a moment to cook, clean, go to the bathroom, etc.  he also napped in the pack n play downstairs sometimes.  It was again used also as a travel crib.

Not really as long as you have bassinet and crib and don't plan on baby sleeping anywhere else

Technically the swing or bouncy seat isnt safe for sleeping, and when they’re older it would be nice to have a downstairs area that is contained for playing in too if you need to step away from baby for a min, like to make lunch or whatever. From what I’ve been told it’s probably one of the things recommended to me as the most used baby item in people’s houses.
