My daughter’s middle name is Dorothy. We called the baby ‘Dot’ from the moment we found out we were expecting (because the baby was the size of a dot) and my husband got attached to the name and wanted to call her Dorothy to carry it on. Although I had second thoughts, I compromised because I had chosen her first name and I wanted to give my husband the choice for the middle name. Also, there is a sentimental attachment to it. My choice was Lilian.

Now when I look at her, she doesn’t seem like a Dorothy and it now annoys me when people refer to her by her middle name.

She’s already had her birth certificate and passport so there’s no changing it now. I hope I grow to love it. There’s no real point to this post other than to express how I feel.
