Regression in children with Global Development Delay
My stepdaughter is 10 and has Global Development Delay. There are times that it seems she is progressing, but she regresses more often than she progresses. Despite being 10 (nearly 11), she is currently more of a 4-5 year old, when normally she is around the age of 6-7. She will hopefully be in a specialist setting as she reaches year 7. We’ve been fighting for extra support for my stepdaughter, including trying to get her into a specialist setting earlier. She now has a EHCP and is getting a lot of support from her mainstream school, and is going to start a specialist school in September. It has taken two years to get the current support that she has. Prior to this, services and schools have known of her GDD, but has failed to provide any kind of meaningful support. My partner did not know of how to proceed prior to the last few years, due to suffering from a VERY mild form of GDD herself (no judgement please), and assumed that the school and services were supporting her.
I’m currently 28+2 weeks pregnant and struggling to help my current little one as she has never regressed this dramatically, and I’m feeling a little……. well, I’m feeling a bit burned out and at a lose end as to help her maintain and progress.
Does anyone else have a little one who has GDD and regresses? What has helped you and your little one? What strategies have you used to help your little one?
