Is this fishy?

Let me start off by saying I’m proud that my bf is a hard worker but idk if this is normal!!!!!
We don’t live together but this is giving me anxiety. My bf and his brother are both mechanics (self employed) they don’t work together. His brother lives in a different state. 
My bf goes to his shop around 9am. I know this because we always text eachother and he will tell me things like “babe I’m on my way to work but I came for some coffee first” he’s back home around 7pm. I know this because again he texts me that he’s on his way home. I full trust him. 
This has happened 3x already. He stays at work till 10pm!!!!!! I see his Instagram stories and I see he’s at work. I texted him and told him I found it scary because 
1. The location is sketchy as hell. Bunch of drug addicts in the street. The next door neighbors they have a tire shop and they actually do meth!!! Sometimes those guys are up until 12am doing meth. My bf has told me this! I’ve seen prostitutes there too. No judgment but it’s freaking scary cause my bf only handles cash. He literally Has  stacks of money in his car or his wallet. We are talking about 3k and up!! I told him it freaks me out. 
I mentioned it to him how it would like if we move in together one day. Would he be only at work until 10pm? I only asked this cause I want him to balance his social life and work too. He got so mad. 
I asked his brothers gf what time does he get home. She said he’s always home by 6:30pm and she said it’s weird my bf stays there so long. She told me her bf always makes sure to dedicate time to her. There are times when I don’t see my bf for 2 weeks because he needs to catch up on work. So he’s working 7days a well. His brother likes to take at least 1 day off.
I mean work gets you money but my bf is always broke. Literally money is an issue to him. Other times he can’t see me cause he’s broke. I don’t get it. I offer to pay he still says he can’t afford gas to see me. We are 62 miles apart

The fact is just that you are not together with the brother but instead with your bf. So comparing the two is just a waste of time. Every business is different and the way people start their business is different too. To open a car shop is not cheap and there is every possibility that he is still paying off his own. Then not every garage can charge the same money, if the brothers garage is in a good area it's possible for him to charge more then double of what your bf charges.

Odd one out but this doesn't really seem unusual for self workers. My brother owns a mechanic shop and my Dad owns his own carpentry business.  Everyone's work load is completely different and maybe your BF has more work to do than his brother or maybe he wants to get ahead of the work load....My brother's hours would vary anywhere from being home at 6pm too staying in the shop until 3am.

My boyfriend is a mechanic and would gladly stay at work that late, he works on his own cars at home on weekends too. He’s just addicted to working on cars 🤪 which also might explain the lack of money as my boyfriend is always buying car parts. Could that be it?

My cousin is a mechanic and has his own Business. His business is at home out of his garage. He spends hoursssss out there.

I get your concern about the druggies and whatnot, also maybe his health from working so much but other than that I dont see an issue. My ex would work from 4am to 9pm building pools or when he did lightning protection (he almost died 1000 times) , and a lot of the time he would be out of town for awhile and not have any days off so I wouldn’t see him for awhile.

i don't find him working all the time to be fishy, but it is kind of weird that he has no money if he's always working? but then again it could be going towards the business

Self-employed people have the full responsibility for their work. They can't just work nine to five and then go home and leave it behind. My parents are self-employed and they work all day, every day because that's the only way to deal with their workload. 
Maybe he got mad at you because he's stressed out and feels like you don't understand. Just talk to him.

Maybe you should get a man that has higher standards for himself and cares about his surroundings and safety. If he’s always working and always broke he’s clearly doing something wrong. It’s either that or he’s a liar. What kind of man doesn’t have money to drive to see his girl when he’s a mechanic? I’m sure he has plenty of fuel.

So as someone who used to date a mechanic, it’s very possible he is just messing around with the guys he works with. One of my exs worked with a few friends at the shop and sometimes they would be there till almost midnight just goofing off and messing around with each others cars, trying to learn different ways to fix things and just hanging out. If it’s stuff like that he wouldn’t be making anymore money as it’s off the clock. While some of what you said is sketchy, try not to jump to conclusions.
