Moving to California? Yes or no

Question

I’ve visited California a few times for a week each time and I’m in love with it. I know I hear talk about costs being so high, but doesn’t that depend on the area you live in? I love the weather there, tons of stuff to do outdoors & mountains. I’m not talking about moving to San Fran or LA, a little more of a rural area. I currently live in Clearwater/St Pete Florida, been here my whole life and despise it. Now I hate it even more because of how much the population is growing in this specific area, lack of weather change, flat land and swamps everywhere. Not to mention, the cost of a 1 bed or even studio is closer to $2,000 even for the dumpiest place around… nothing is maintained and it looks like a dumpster fire here. I’ve wanted to move away and California has been my thought each time since I was 12. If anyone can suggest other places to look into (I would visit first of course), I’d be open to it.

California is much pricier than Florida. Live there if you want but don’t delude yourself either. It’s expensive, crowded, has fires, droughts, pollution, etc.

I wouldn’t suggest Ca, and I live here. It’s expensive everywhere, and it’s only getting more expensive. Homelessness and crime are sadly so out of control, even in the more rural towns and areas. It’s extremely sad because Ca is gorgeous and has sooo much to offer! But I would recommend living somewhere else and just vacation in California.

The grass is always greener on the other side. As someone who was born and raised in California, it’s a really good place to visit but not to live in. 
I highly recommend to look elsewhere, especially now with their shit government, everything is too expensive and it’s a nanny state. Income tax, sales tax, rent and housing, and property tax are way too high, crime is way high, and quality of life is low. It’s beautiful, but you’ll give more than you get back.

I’d say go for it! Not necessarily CA, but Colorado is also quite gorgeous, so is Nevada or Arizona. If you want hills and weather that changes with the seasons you could always go do Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, or New York.

I moved to southern CA from NE FL and I love it. It’s definitely more expensive, but I live in a popular city. Our 1 bedroom is 2425 a month. But go 30 mins East and you can get a 2 bedroom for that. The weather where I am is perfect, but the further East you go the hotter it gets. Usually about 10 degrees warmer if you go 30 mins east. I moved from FL to get away from the heat, so the extra money to live further west is worth it to us. As far as stuff to do, there is ALWAYS something free to do-we usually go hiking, the beach, etc. There are a few free museums, the zoo is amazing. There are also so many theme parks. 
I will say there was a pretty big culture shock. There’s no small talk(which is fine by me), no one gives a thank you wave if you let them in traffic, etc. 
There’s also no rain in Southern CA. Definitely miss that.

I’ve lived in California 25 years. As a kid and as an adult now. I’m currently in 29 palms where my husband is stationed. We have lived in San Diego(where I grew up), Oceanside, Orange County, and Long Beach-all fairly centralized areas. I absolutely hate living here. Unless you’re big on outdoors, are into sports, or are rich enough to live by the beach it’s not worth the cost. If you take advantage of what it has to offer and go do stuff a lot then I’d say it’s worth it. I’m a homebody so I couldn’t care less about driving to big bear or Lake Tahoe regularly. I lived 10 minutes from the beach and even that got old. I personally love the cold and rain tho.

California is disgusting and unaffordable. Most people will never even own a home there. Also, the governor is gross. My sister just relocated from California to Colorado and loves it.

What kind of weather are you looking for? Places like Colorado & Utah have all 4 seasons. I will never not recommend Utah to someone. I absolutely loved living there and would go back in a heartbeat.
