Rant!!!!! I hate insurance!!!!
So December 9, 2020 I had an emergency surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy along with my right tube. The hospital billed it at $15,331.04, my insurance covered $13,981 of that so my com payment was 1350.04. Cool I started paying it right away. $75.74 every month. Payment plan right.
In July I had received a letter stating that they were adding on another $1250 to their part of the payment, I contacted the hospital and let them know to be waiting for that payment check.
Well a couple months passed and I was like hmm I wonder how much I have left to pay off since insurance added onto their payment
It was still in the thousands????
I gave it a bit more time, looked at it today and it still hadn’t been shown as anything being added on.
So I called my insurance to see if the check had ever gone through, The representative told me that they never sent me a letter stating that they were paying more. She then proceeded to tell me that The hospital had recoded it on 8-30-21 and added on another $500 8 MONTHS LATER ALMOST 9
So I called the hospital, The representative at the hospital told me that never in the history of her working there (almost 20 years) has she ever seen a hospital bill be re-coded after it was billed out. She said call them back and ask for documentation
So I called the insurance back, I got a different representatives than I got the first time and this representative proceeded to tell me that she didn’t know who told me that the hospital had recoded it but that insurance had recoded it, and sadly the recode added on $500
I asked why was it recoded and she couldn’t give an answer
I asked if there was anyone to talk with to get my money back or is it just a giant middle finger to my face?
I didn’t think it was fair that they can go and re-code eight months later and add on more money I asked her what are they going to do recode it again in another six months and add on another thousand?
She told me she didn’t have the answers for me but that I could appeal the bill.
Which I plan on doing.
I thanked her for her time and hung up.
I’m so frustrated I feel like I’m being taken advantage of. Thankfully our work is dropping the insurance and getting a new one On the 1st because they’ve had so many issues with this one.
I hate being an adult.
