Gifts for step kids?

Do you still buy gifts for your step kids if they don’t respect you and say things like “you’re not my mother!”

Im not a stepmother but yes i would. Its true when they say that you arent their mother and you agreed to treat them like your own when you married their parent. Would you still buy gifts for your biological child if they said the same things?

Yes. You’re modeling appropriate behaviors for them, and youre modeling how to be a loving adult. Kids are allowed to act like children - adults are not.

This sounds petty as hell. They’re right. You’re not their mother. They’re probably still trying to deal with the fact that their parents aren’t together anymore. Respect is earned. Not freely given. “Love me or I won’t buy you presents” is a very bad lesson to teach children.

My step kids treat me badly but I still buy them gifts for birthdays and Christmas. It’s not in my character to go out of my way to hurt kids feelings, so as difficult as it is, I try not to let their behavior dictate mine.

I don’t have stepkids of my own, but I even buy gifts for my sister’s stepkids. It’s the best way to make them feel included in your family. If her biological daughter was acting out, I would still buy her Christmas gifts. It’s the same concept with stepkids

You should. You're not their mother, but you are playing a motherly role. I think people hugely underestimate how difficult it is to be a stepchild.

They'll grow out of that eventually. Just be patient. I remember being that way to one of my moms old boyfriends and as an adult now, I realize how bratty I was. He got frustrated with us but he never took it out on us. I suggest you do the same. Buy them something nice and thoughtful. Really think about what each of them would truly enjoy. Maybe make it an event, not an object. Like going out to do something instead of just a present

I think this depends on why you give Christmas presents. Is it the whole Santa theme, naughty and nice list idea? If so, I think there’s your answer. Naughty behavior gets no gifts, nice behavior gets gifts. If kids earn their gifts, then maybe they’re not earning them.
In our house. The focus is on Jesus, how he came, why he came, what he died for, etc. We give gifts at Christmas to celebrate his birthday and what he came to do. Jesus gives us what we don’t deserve, in spite of what we do because he loves us. So we do the same on his birthday. We give to each other, undeservingly, to commemorate Jesus. We don’t take presents away, no matter the behavior. We don’t not buy them, no matter the behavior. It’s not about us and it’s not about them. It’s about Jesus. And we communicate that to them. That’s Christmas at our house.
You and your husband need to decide what Christmas is about at your house and that will guide you to the answer.

I don’t have any step kids but yes I would. If your dating their parenting your accepting they have “baggage” which is their child… Your not their mother kids are brutal they will say the truth.
