Does anyone wear wigs?

I’m very much so contemplating cutting my hair very short and letting it grow out while wearing a wig. I have very damaged, thin hair that’s been fried from dying and coloring. I just want to start over. I doesn’t grow and breaks constantly so I’m wearing extensions now to hide that. Does anyone or has anyone wore wigs that they could stand? I hear they’re itchy and hot but I’d only need to wear till summer till my hair was long enough to put extensions back in
