What are cheap states to live in?

What state do you live in and how much is rent monthly plus other bills?

I live in New York Long Island and rent for a studio/one bedroom can be over $1000 a month. Imagine what a 2-3 bedroom house could be. New York is very expensive and being on my own with my 10 month old son is getting harder. I need to move somewhere much cheaper. And New York is just too expensive.
