8 month old eating hair..

From what I remember my 8 month old started this at the beginning of December . I put her on the floor to play and I noticed she was grabbing hair off the carpet and eating it . At first I thought she was just being silly or something but then I noticed hair around her mouth. She also will try to eat my husbands beard and my hair too. I thought it was just a weird thing she was doing at the time . But then today she did it again . I mentioned it to my mom and she basically said it wasn’t normal and to tell her pediatrician . We actually go in Friday . But now I’m worried , the drs are also concerned about her size so this is making me even more worried about her health . When I was still pregnant I had to see fetal maternal medicine since she was labeled with fetal growth restrictions ,

because they thought she wasn’t growing properly . Has anyone ever dealt with this before? I feel like I’m failing her and I don’t know what to do .
