When do babies begin to sit up on their own?

My baby is 16 weeks old and still falls to the sides when I sit him up. He can semi hold himself with his hands to the front but if he leans too far to the sides he can’t keep his balance and falls. I feel like he should be able to sit up without any help by now. Any advise?

Around 6 months. It good to keep sitting them up and letting the fall safely, that way they can practice balance.

It's still early for them, however babies develop at different rates. On average It's around 6 months that they can sit without help. 
They start with help from 3 months.

My girl is four months and is always wanting to sit up. She leans towards her toes to keep her up or I’ll put her boppy around her waist and that also helps her sit straight up.

Usually around 6 months but every baby is different. Some do earlier some to later. Mine is doing the same as yours right now

(FTM) My baby still doesn’t hold his head up for long periods of time by himself. Is it safe to start trying to sit him up or should I wait a couple more  weeks??

I have the exact same question I tried it today and she falls back and forward as well mine turns 4 months old on the 16th..
