Can baby sleep in his crib from the start?

I’m a first time mom to be, baby is due May 2nd & I am seeing lots of research about baby sleeping in our room with us for the first 6 months.

We have a very tiny bedroom & a bassinet (or pack and play especially) aren’t going to fit easily or comfortably into the room with us. We have a whole nursery set up for him and his own crib bought and built just across the hall from our room but am I wrong to put him in his own room that soon? We figured we’d try to make do with it in our room in our bedroom until he outgrew the bassinet but that might only be a couple of months!
