Nursing school at 24
Hello everyone, I’m just discouraged. My mom just approached me and asked what am I doing with my life. I responded and said I’m planning to take my last pre-req for nursing school this spring which is Microbiology. Then she’s like her 22 year old coworker just got accepted into a nursing program she just started last week. And I responded with “ok”. Then she’s like I just find it odd that you’re 24 and still not in a nursing program. There are 21 year old nurses at my job. Like ok and what does that have to do with me? It’s like she’s always comparing me to other people. I was planning on finishing this last course this fall and possibly start the program in August, because in May I have a major surgery and I don’t want to start the program and be out of it for 6 weeks recovering from that. Also, at times I sometimes wonder if I really want to be a nurse or am I just doing it because my mom wants me to be one so bad. I am a compassionate person and I love taking care of people, but there are so many other healthcare professions out there too.
