If u start the pills today, u need to start with the first pill in the pack (the Sunday pill). The pack should come with sticker strips to change the existing starting week that’s printed on it, to reflect the actual day u start if it’s not a Sunday. And yes, ur cycle will change, as hormonal birth control primarily works by stopping ovulation, meaning it stops ur natural cycle/period & gives u a synthetic cycle with withdrawal bleeding. Which, with most combination pills, happens sometime during the 4th week. That said, it can take 3-6 months for ur body to adjust to the birth control, so irregularities with bleeding/spotting are normal during that time.

The hormones can effect your cycle. How it is effected depends on the individual. Some people have heavier periods, lighter periods, some skip periods altogether. You likely won’t bleed when you’re used to bleeding because when taking combination pills you have a week of inactive pills on the 4th week that will cause withdrawal bleeding. For instance, I began taking BC pills similar to those on the first day of the next period I had after receiving them so that they’d be effective immediately. I reached the inactive pills about a week before I would’ve normally had my period, so I began bleeding a week before normal. Know that this isn’t a real period because BC pills stop ovulation, it’s just your body’s response to the drop in hormones found in the active pills. You can start taking them whenever but always start with the very first pill in the pack. If you start any day other than Sunday, use the stickers that came with the pills to align your days.
