When do parents start the cry it out method?

Was asking a friend if her daughter would go to sleep easily at 4 months for her or was it just me and she told me to let my 4 month old cry it out…this doesn’t seem right. I wont do that.

In my opinion, any age is too young for cry it out. There are other methods to help your baby sleep.

If it was up to me, I would have done it from 3months. If baby is fed, burped, changed and swaddled I don't mind if they cry it out for a few minutes. Hubby on the other hand feels sorry for to them and always picks them up as soon as they start fussing. 
Do what you're comfortable with.

We did with my son when he was about to turn 6 months. But I’ll probably do a little sooner with my second. I can’t function without sleep, I literally turn into a monster. Do what feels right for you and your family.

5-6 months. And don't let people lie to you: when done appropriately, extinction is perfectly safe. ❤️ Both of my kiddos are sleep trained and have slept 12-13 hours a night ever since. They are now healthy 2.5 year old and one year olds.

But before 6 months any sleep training is a bit pointless, they developemental ly are just not ready yet.

Usually 5 months is when you can sleep train. Before that baby can’t really self soothe. So yeah, 4 months probably is a bit early. 
We did a modified cry it out method starting at 6 months and our baby did great with it. But I think every baby and families needs are different. 
Sheesh there’s a lot of judgey people on this app. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from being a mom it’s that one size fits all and I’m gonna try not to judge other moms for their choices even if it’s one I would not make.

I personally never would do it. Babies cry for a reason and with cry it out you’re teaching your kid that their needs won’t be met when they cry. Crying is how babies communicate with us and as parents it’s our responsibility to tend to their needs not let them sit there crying until they’re so exhausted they knock out. 
Sleep training of any kind shouldn’t be done until 6 months though. There’s definitely much gentler methods to sleep training than cio

I would never use it at all, but definitley not a 4 month old baby! 4 months is a major sleep milestone in terms of development, they start to develop proper sleep cycles, try reading into it and it might give you some hope that things will get better. Also a lot of babies still need night feeds for a while yet!
