How much impatience is normal in a 3 year old?
My son is 3 and a half, will be 4 this summer. He is incredibly impatient. If he wants something or wants to do something and it is not fulfilled IMMEDIATELY, he screams at the topic of his lungs, full on meltdown. He cannot understand “please wait” or “I am coming/I am getting there”. I have tried gently explaining it to him in various ways but he doesn’t get it. He will continue to scream and scream until he gets what he wants. It makes doing anything so stressful. If we are getting dressed to go outside he wants to go outside so badly that he screams the entire time we are getting ready by the door. It ruins the mood of everyone. My husband gets so foul because of the nonstop screaming. I don’t know how else to explain to him he has to wait and be patient while things are cooked or getting ready. Visual aids don’t work either. I’ve shown him on a clock. I’ve shown him timers. None of it clicks.
