Any advice with a sensitive gag reflex? Please help

Allyson

Hi mamas! My baby is nearing 9 months and struggles to eat solids. He has a very sensitive gag reflex and throws up really easily. Has anyone also dealt with this? I’m waiting for my appointment with our pediatrician. Luckily he’s still growing appropriately 😅

Definitely keep feeding all kinds of food (it’s best to stop purées/baby food by 8 months to prevent babe being afraid of texture!). He has to keep practicing that gag reflux to learn how to control it. It’s messy and hard to watch but beneficial for babe! Check out solid starts on Instagram! She goes over gagging often. Is he a phlemy kid? Breastfed? I ask because my nephew has a sense give gag reflux (he’s 7 and it’s soo much better but he still vomits more than the typical kid but he does eat anything!). We realized that once he didn’t have dairy, he was less phlemy and gagging less.

You know what he a bit phlegmy and he’s on formula! I unfortunately never developed milk. Also I always thought baby spit up was normal but he definitely spits up more than the normal baby! I really appreciate this! Not excited about the mess but this is a really good idea! Thank you so much. Still waiting for his dr to call me

Just keep letting him try foods, it is a learning process at this point and the hag reflex is a good thing it prevents choking. Before 1 food is more for fun than nutrition, breastmilk or formula is still the primary form of nutrition.

I just have this fear that he’d grow up and not eat anything but purée! I might be over thinking it as he is my first but I am definitely going to keep trying.
