Breastfeeding difficulty

Alexxa

I’m not sure where else to ask but the lactation consultant, I have an appointment next week but I just want to see if anyone else experienced this!

I had my son early December via c section. I tried my damndest to breastfeed but there was never enough to satisfy him so I had to supplement feed. My milk sort of came in 3 days later but it still was only maybe 3 ounces from the whole day of pumping. My baby was eating 3 by the 2nd week.

I did absolutely everything I could to boost my supply. All of the supplements, body armor, coconut water, oats, teas, all of it and it did nothing. I had him at the breast for 5 minutes on each side (only 5 because he’d get super frustrated because nothing was coming out nor was it fast enough for him lol) and then I pumped, and pumped again after he fell asleep. I was pumping double time to initiate my body to produce more. I didn’t even care if I over produced at that point. I used the correct flange size, I have a spectra s2 that I use and everything is new and no parts need to be replaced (trust me, I’ve triple checked)

At this point, we’ve switched formulas 3 times because he is having terrible tummy issues. I was giving a bottle of breastmilk a day (from what I could give him) and the rest was formula but his poor tummy caused him so much pain that I stopped the breastmilk and only give him formula to see if that helped. I am dairy free so I know sensitivities are a thing in breastmilk too.

Did anyone have issues producing and found the remedy? I feel like I’m failing my son because I can’t produce and he has to deal with tummy issues.
