What birth control worked for you?

I know that everyone has their own preferences in birth control and everyone's experience is different. Truth be told, I have never been on birth control. I'm not all that sexually active and some of that comes from having vaginismus, psychological troubles due to abusive relationships and experiences, and growing up in an extremely sex-negative home.
I now decided to get back into the dating game and hopefully meet someone nice, even in a casual way. But I want to be on birth control. I originally settled with the implant, but I'm afraid my insurance won't cover all of it and I'm trying to do this without running into financial troubles. Plus, I'm afraid of side effects.
I also thought about getting the shot since I won't be left behind with scars and it lasts for three months so it isn't too bad. Nevertheless I'd like your opinion. What kind of birth control do you take and how has it worked for you?  Did it cost much? We're the side effects too overwhelming or easy to manage?

i’m on the pill, if you use/have insurance i paid like 75 cents for a month. however, before it was really expensive (i have paid 55/3mon and 90/6mon using wisp/hers). from my personal experience it has been really good, haven’t had terrible side effects from it, i recently have started to have some negative side effects, mostly emotional as all hell when week 3 rolls around however i also recently have been getting major cramps and my gyno thinks it’s because i’m on a tri-phasic pill which tries to mimic your hormone levels as if you aren’t on the pill and it’s normal for your body to develop a reaction to something you take constantly. despite that, i highly recommend starting off on a tri-phasic pill as it does feel semi-normal to your natural cycle i was on it for 11mo before i started to have some negative side effects. i have an alarm set for my time and i’ve never missed a pill. i just don’t do well with pain so iud/implant were out of the question for me and my first college roommate got the shot and she said she gained like 30 pounds from the 1.5-2years she was taking it and i just lost that much weight definitely don’t need to gain jt back!!

I’m on the implant right now. My insurance covered it all. The side effects in the beginning is little brutal and you gotta have a lot of patience.
The implant caused me to gain 20 pounds isnt ga problem for me since I weighed exactly at 100 before so the weight gain had been nice for me.
It caused little mood swings in the beginning which went back to normal but that’s for every birth control.
The bleeding part is what ladies don’t like. I’m not sexually active so I didn’t mind too much. Bleeding was little heavy for few months. It’s random bleeding. You may bleed for weeks straight or months straight. Mine turned to light bleed tho. Not enough for a tampon and not enough to show up on a panty liner just enough to show up on toilet paper. 
My bleeding stopped altogether at 6 months in, I haven’t bled since. No periods either.  I’ve been on it for almost 3 years now.
Getting it put in wasn’t painful at all. Only thing that hurt was the numbing shot which is over in a second lol only took 30 seconds to place.
Overall it’s a very good birth control if your body can get use to it.  Just because my body got used to it doesn’t mean others will. Some ladies didn’t have to patience to get used it or some just never got used to it.
So take from that what you will.
