Husband wants niece to live with us - input?
My husband and I have an 8 month old daughter & I’m 15 weeks pregnant with our son. I work from home & my husband works in an office. Currently, I take care of my daughter while working remotely. When our son arrives, we will need help during the day so I can continue working. I’ve mentioned hiring a sitter. Today my husband said we should have his 18 year old niece live with us and take care of the babies.
I’m against this idea & do not want anyone living with us (visitors - ok, someone living with us - no): No privacy, we’d be responsible/have to keep an eye out for her, it would change the dynamic of our household, expenses would increase (electricity, water, food), etc. I don’t want to have two children to care for and an 18 year old as well (yes, she’s an adult, but as his niece, we’d be obligated to care for her and make sure she was safe and has what she needs, etc.). We’re moving in a few months too so my husband said she could stay in our guest room. The guest room is for our parents to stay in when they visit. I want to enjoy our new house and our new baby without a permanent house guest! I asked how long he wants her to live with us and he said until she finishes college probably (four years)! Anyone else think this is a bad idea or am I overreacting?
