Complications in pregnancy

Lauren

I had my anatomy scan the week before Christmas, we got told there was something wrong with baby measuring small and a shadow on the kidneys and referred to another hospital for fetal medicine. On arriving there, We were told that we’d been referred because of a problem with baby’s heart which wasn’t mentioned at the first hospital. The second hospital mentioned that something was wrong with baby’s skull, heart, size and stomach which they thought might of been a chromosome defect and wanted us to make a decision there and then whether to carry on the pregnancy, they asked if I was committed to the pregnancy or have an amniocentesis (I’ve had miscarriages in the past so this wasn’t an option).

The other option that we chose was to be referred to a third hospital, we took this because it’s classed as the best hospital. Thankfully we got the appointment the next day and went to see a cardiologist and fetal medicine doctor. Whilst there they said baby was measuring small and that they have an extra bit of heart however looked perfectly healthy. They booked us in for another follow up appointment 3 weeks later.

We had our appointment 2 weeks ago, they checked baby over and said that everything looked ok and that baby had grown. However they THINK baby has a leaky heart valve.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? We are due for 2 weekly appointments to check baby and if baby struggling they will deliver baby. I’m really struggling mentally with low mood and severe anxiety, I feel like something is going to be found at the next ultrasound or baby isn’t going to have a heartbeat. The last 3 weeks have been hell and there’s been something at every appointment.

We’ve been to see the hospital today, baby has gone from the 6th centile to the 5th, and they are now worried that her femur is a bit short.

Although they said having a growth scan every 2 weeks doesn’t give her much time to grow.

Her heart is looking okay and she’s not showing any signs of stress at the moment. They think she has an extra heart valve and the placenta cord is attached to it which is causing the leaky valve.

My head is literally all over the place right now and everything is getting to much.

I’m type 1 diabetic and when I got pregnant I knew it wasn’t going to be an easy pregnancy but this just feels like it’s dragging on and on with different things every time and I’m feeling so alone with everything. 😭
