Does someone who orders door dash everyday seem to be good with money? EDIT TO ANSWER QUESTIONS
So I am a SAHM, my husband works, he makes good money, but he seems to be irresponsible with money. Particularly- door dash.
We live in an apt with our son (3) and I’m pregnant. I cook for myself and my son, but my husband does not eat any food I make. Not a single thing. He orders door dash every single day. I am not exaggerating.
Sometimes breakfast, but always lunch and dinner.
He orders pizza, fast food places, local restaurants. I have no idea how much he is spending. I would say probably 30 a day at least? I have no access to our finances, all I know is how much he makes, and how much we have saved (not much)
His frivolous spending has me very, very concerned. The amount he spends on food for himself seems very irresponsible when we are trying to buy a house, and having a second child. My husband makes good money, yet our savings has not increased.
Also- I know door dash ups the prices. I don’t know how much they increase it, but, as if eating out isn’t expensive enough, he’s paying even more to have it delivered.
If my husband wants a snack, door dash. If my husband wants ice cream, door dash. We will be sitting watching tv at 8 at night, and suddenly he wants wings. Door dash.
So you figure atleast 30 a day, probably more, PLUS $150 a week food shopping bc I still cook for myself and child.
I suggested we go to a financial advisor, maybe who can help us come up with a budget so we can buy a house. I know what needs to be done, but I am hoping a professional will get thru to him more.
Everyone knows when you are saving money the first thing to cut is eating out. Meanwhile he eats out multiple times a day. My husband tells me he’s good with money. He doesn’t need financial advice. He can spend how he wants bc he works hard.
How can you be good with money when you blow so much on food? And the thing that really gets me is the fact that he used door dash instead of picking it up.
Edit- if I need to pay a bill or go shopping or need money he gives me money.
People saying it’s not a big deal- he’s spending over 1,000 a month on freaking hamburgers and ice cream. On top of regular food shopping. Meanwhile we have saved literally 0 dollars in the past 5 years. And we are about to have a second child in a one bedroom apt. To me, this is a big deal. That is so selfish.
Briabella- thank you for responding, I always love reading your responses on this app. My husband makes 115k a year, which no, is not a ton of money, but enough where we should have some saved. We don’t have a lot of debt, aside from 2 cars we are paying off, and a little bit of student loan debt. Fast food isn’t the only thing my husband blows money on, he also buys video games, computers, and has a pretty big guitar collection.
Hope- he does think my food is nasty. I cook healthy and he only likes greasy, cheesy, loaded with fat food. But even so, I try to buy him things he likes at the store to avoid door dashing. For example, he orders cheese fries as snack. So I bought frozen fries and cheese for him to make at home. He won’t. Same thing with wings, I’ll buy a bag of chicken wings at the super market, and he doesn’t like it. I should add I used to eat crap like him but made lifestyle changes bc I was morbidly obese. I lost 170 pounds, so I make really healthy stuff, and he doesn’t eat healthy. He’s close to 400 pounds.
Allison- yes, I really wouldn’t be surprised if my husband was spending over 1,000 a month on food.
