Is it wrong for people that arent black to have dreads?

I have half my head done in dreads I have a  total of 36. I'm Irish and native American so I just call myself white for the most part because I'm lighter complexion. I heard people talk about dreads on people who aren't black cultural appropriation or being straight up racist. What is your opinion?

It’s your hair. There is a difference between appropriation vs appreciation. You loving the look is appreciation and it’s your body to dress (with hair) as you wish. People need to stop worrying about the opinions of others- wear what makes you happy!

I dont police people hair lol. The only thing i think is off limits is the N word and also famous artists in music, clothing, hair, style appropriating from other cultures as though they are the original creators.

A lot of cultures have dreadlocks/mattlocks. Matlocks are even a natural thing that can happen to your hair. Hell, the vikings had them way back when the English used a different language that most modern people would consider gibberish. It’s not black-specific. The only difference is hair texture. If you don’t have coarse, coil hair, you will have to get mats instead of dreads, which you cannot wash or safely remove. You have to shave them off. If you do have course, coiled hair, congrats, you are probably at least mixed good for you. 
I’ve only heard white people complain about the ethical issue of getting dreads as well, which feels like those parents raising autistic children telling people they have to call them “people with autism” even though the children actually affected don’t give a shit. It’s hair and also physically impossible to dreadlock. So I don’t get the issue.

I have half of my head dreaded and IDGAF what anyone thinks or would think! I am Puerto Rican so my hair is Caucasian type hair and it’s dreads perfectly (to the person who said dreads on white people look “crusty”). It’s all about how you manage and maintain your dreads. I use a crochet needle to dread and I usually do it 1-2 times a month to maintain my roots. Not a damn thing crusty about mine! I even add beads, hemp string and natural crystals to mine to add some spunk. I’ve had some dreads for 6 years, some for almost 3 years, and some for about 6 months. I just keep adding as time goes on. Fuck what anyone else thinks or says, always be you and be true to who you are!

I just want to thank everyone for their comments. Thank you for giving me the confidence to finally wear my hair how I think it’s the prettiest. 
I have wanted to do braids and “braid in” hair extensions for years because I think it’s the most BEAUTIFUL hairstyle but I was also worried about someone thinking I was cultural appropriating so I’ve never done it out of respect for everyone. 
But I think I am going to try them now! My husband always said I would look really good with them and So I think it’s time to make my hairstyle change! ❤️💙

It's not wrong. I just think it's different. When I see a white person with locks or braids it does catch me attention but I'm not mad.

It's your hair. It's your head. There is no "right" or "wrong". Do what makes you feel your best. Don't let the current state of affairs trick you into thinking that "gatekeeping" is normal. It's not. It's a juvenile tactic created to undermine and divide.

I don’t really care. It’s your hair.
I think dreads looks so beautiful on colored people hair but they always look dirty and crusty on white peoples hair. I guess it’s because they don’t actually dread. But I think you can buy hair that does dread so it doesn’t look so messy.
Anyways it’s your decision and your head. So do what you want :)
