When can u get epidural

Last time I gave birth I was induced and got the epidural but I don't remember how dilated I was. Do u have to be a certain number to receive an epidural ? Because I am planning on getting it again. I felt no pain last time and don't want to this time.

I was 8cm with my first and 7cm with my second but I think it’s 4-5cm as long as you’re in active labor…

My Dr let me get it after my water broke. If I remember correctly they broke my water with both boys at 4 cm 🤔

my best friend was induced in december due to preeclampsia and a kidney stone/severely inflamed kidney. she was in a lot of pain from that and was having contractions buts was only dilated to a 1 and they gave her a little bit of an epidural to help her with the pain and then she got more the more she dilated! it's just what your hospital offers but i would definitely ask them when you get the chance

I’m an L&D nurse! At the hospital I work at we generally say about 3cm is when you can get your epidural. We don’t have a cut off either, so as long as you can sit up long enough to get the epidural placed and wait for it to start working, you can still get it. I’ve had patients get it at 9.5cm before lol

I would guess it depends where you live and how the hospital operates. Im in the UK and I was told I can have it once I'm in active labour at 4cm. Unfortunately once I was 4cm, by the time they took me to the delivery room, got the anaesthetist called in and had it put in, I was already 7-8cm and felt everything. You should ask for it as soon as possible so you can have it put in on time.

They offered the epidural before they broke my water. (My husband foolishly talked me out of it and I had to wait an hour before I could get it).
