Mother in laws comment about me being “exotic”…

So when I first met my mother in law her first comment was “oh your very exotic” “where are you from”

Couple of years later.. we were watching a movie and a white blonde girl with blue eyes came on and she says “wow she’s really beautiful isn’t she” , I agreed and said yes and then she said “not as exotic as you” and I just laughed it off. And then she says “yeah well you know when I first met you you had your eyes all done and you looked extra exotic so that’s why I said it the first time”. And I was sitting there thinking… I didn’t have my eyes done though? Maybe I had light makeup?

I’m a tan asian so maybe my eyes looked extra asian that day haha I don’t know

It’s a bit upsetting when she says things like this because I know that my boyfriend has only dates white brunettes in the past so obviously his mum isn’t used to “exotic” girls like me.

I don’t know whether to be offended or not .
