So Frustrating!
I need to vent! So I started seeing a new gyno now that I have insurance through work and it’s Kaiser. Well I had a a list of questions and things I wanted to do to conceive with PCOS. I don’t know why I thought this time would be different and would helpful to me…well I was wrong. Like always first thing is lose weight and get on birth control. Like did she not hear me!!! I’ve been on BCP for 10 years! I’m now married and ready to TTC. I have started life style changes to help, but it’s more than “just lose weight”. I asked for blood work so I can see what hormones are high and she didn’t want to! I said it’s more for me than for her. I even named off medical journals with the different research I have done on PCOS that have helped me manage my symptoms naturally (eating better, vitamins, etc) and she was still saying “losing weight helps”. I KNOW IT HELPS BUT ITS HARD TO LOSE ON PCOS. I am losing weight on Low Impact workouts because high impact raises my cortisol (stress hormone) and actually makes me gain weight. She said she will give me a year before she can refer me to an RE, and now I have no choice but to wait out the year with her now. She can’t prescribe me any fertility medication according to her. Plus she seemed hesitant to even do a referral by saying “well your coverage may not expand that far”. Guess what it’s does I called member services right after to check. It’s so frustrating when we don’t feel heard or feel like we are a waste of time for them. It’s hard for them to understand PCOS is not just weight there is lean PCOS and it’s a metabolic disorder that has many factors. Educating a Dr. that should know this information is not in my plans, but I will fight.
