Did anyone see the CDC’s update for language development?

Seems pretty weird… 50 words use to be an 18 month milestone and now it’s a 30 month milestone!

It’s because most 18 month olds only say momma and dadda and maybe a handful of other words like banana or water. Pediatricians /speech therapists were swamped with kids that DO NOT have language delays but on paper they do. Speech development is widely varying.

I saw a tiktok about it today and apparently it's because of masks. Children can't read people's mouths when they're wearing masks. They also took away the milestone for crawling, probably because some kids walk instead of crawl. My cousin is a speech therapist and she's devastated.

I’m glad because it seems crazy to me to expect so many words at such a young age. Speech is definitely different for many kids. So many people I know I’ve talked to told me their kids only say a few words at 18 months. There’s a few that told me theirs say many! Kids learn at their own rate. Now of course if they aren’t even saying mama or dada at that age theirs a development issue.

Probably because they have (from what I have heard) found that masks can cause speech delays and sometimes do more harm then good, so they are changing standards like they have been doing so much in the last couple of years because what they have been pushing on people backfired on them. Just my own thought.
