Is work in the wrong or am I?

Question

I had called into work with nausea, vomiting and other things. They asked me to get a doctor's note for it after asking how far along I was. They then remarked that it was "too early for any kind of morning sickness to show up". Then they said they'd fire me if this became a monthly thing when I have only done this once and I've been working there for only 3 weeks. Who is in the wrong? And what can I do about it?

They CANNOT. It’s illegal to fire someone for being pregnant. They also have no right to tell you what you should or shouldn’t feel. Honestly, I would not want to work there.

They cannot fire you for being pregnant but if you're within your probationary period they can terminate you under normal circumstances so this might be a real grey area. I would try and get that in writing and see if that is actually something they can do. However they can request you bring in a doctor's note to cover your absence. They can't really tell you how you should be feeling considering every pregnancy and person is different so that was just dumb on their part.

This is infuriating. Definitely get what they said in writing and report to HR if it wasn't the HR rep who said it. They can't fire you for being pregnant, and they aren't a medical professional so they shouldn't be telling you when morning sickness is and isn't appropriate to have. 
Still get the doctors note and see if your OBGYN will put in the range of the pregnancy where it's possible to have morning sickness so that they have the professional opinion on file as well. If its bad enough that you're calling out of work, then maybe ask the doctor if they have any recommendations on medication or methods to use to make it bearable for work.

Omg. I hate this. 
They are 100% building their case and making their plan to let you go. It's not legal, but companies do this all the time. 
You have 2 options here....
You can either stay the course and everytime you feel ill or need a day off, provide them with a doctor's note. That will keep them off your back for the time being...but be aware they will likley cite your lack of "focus" or "performance decline" and then fire you anyways. 
Or
You can go find something else. 
I would save myself the stress and do the latter. Sorry this is happening to you.

Check your state laws. In California, you can’t be fired because of pregnancy, or any side effects of pregnancy (needing time off for being sick, for example). They are entitled to ask for a doctors note, but the note just simply has to state what the doctor recommends (such as time off or transferring to a less physically stressful role). The note cannot state what the specific ailments or conditions you have are because of privacy laws. 
However, labor laws differ from state to state. You will need to know your rights for the state you work in.

Do you have days to use? If not, unfortunately, they can fire you probably pretty easily. I work in a state that someone can pretty much be fired for something whenever the company wants.
