Do you find the term “Irish twins” offensive?

I read a post from someone saying they were offended by the term (meaning children born to the same mother less than 12 months apart) because they are a “real twin.” I’d heard the term a lot but never realized it was offensive.

Real twin? Being a twin isn’t a badge of honor, or on the flip side a reason to be persecuted. For her to be offended that means she think she should be protected for being a twin. I’m embarrassed for this person.

I don’t think it’s offensive to a “real twin”.  That seems extra.  But I can see how it can be offensive to the Irish/Catholic community because it originated from people making fun of Irish Catholic immigrants who couldn’t afford birth control

No that's ridiculous 🙄 although I do hear it mainly used for kids who aren't even technically "irish twins" because they're 13-15 months apart
