Is a top 5 name too common? (Amelia)
I remember growing up there were SO many Jessicas and Ashleys - 2-3 duplicates in every classroom. I don’t want to pick a name that’s too common, but we’ve loved the name Amelia for years and now I see it’s in the top 5 most common names, just like Jessica and Ashley were in the late 80s/early 90s.
Looking at the statistics, it seems that the internet has helped to spread out the distribution of names, in a good way. For example, in the 90s, there were 400,000+ Jessicas each year, but now the most popular names have less than 200,000 babies each. Thoughts on this? Have you struggled with this?
