Should we back Ukraine up with our military?

Su

Someone posted a good question… they ask if the American people should be allowed to vote if we go to war with Russia. So I am going to piggy back onto that.

Here is your “vote”:

Should we send our military to Ukraine to help them fight Russia?

I also want to add I genuinely don’t understand the bleeding-hearts about this. Did you all care about Afghanis? Iraqis? How about the starving families in Yemen and Saudi? Bosnia? The bloody civil wars all over Africa? Y’all only suddenly care because Ukraine is westernized and reminds you of yourself because they have access to social media to document this. The same shit has been happening across the Middle East for decades. If you truly care this much then go down to your local recruiter’s office and sign the F up. Stop trying to send American soldiers when you have no connection at all to the military and no experience at all with war.

I think people only care because now it's affecting them personally, tbh. Gas prices, wheat, and the threat of nuclear war makes everyone pay attention.

Yes, the conflict for Crimea has been ongoing for years.

To add russia and Ukraine have been in this war for 20 years now and no one bats an eye until now!

Of course not. Ukraine is not a NATO country, 1. We have no obligation to help them with military support. 2, aiding them with military support would mean declaring war with Russia, which would most likely result in millions and millions of lives lost, possibly even nuclear war. America does not have to intervene in every single situation in the world. We are not the world’s police force. Our military is to protect the US. Is the US currently under threat or attack? No.

Understood. We have american military base in Romania which is great!

Also I’ll add the US can’t just send troops to a random country. That country has to agree to host them.

This isn’t quite true... Due to OPSEC you wouldn’t know exactly where troops are being sent to in Eastern Europe but they are there to prevent Russian invasion if Putin tries to move further west. They’re not there to assist any country’s military in a war unless they are NATO.

I think whoever voted yes for sending our troops over there needs to go help fight Russia themselves 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s easy to offer up the lives of our military while you sit there on your phone being a keyboard warrior.

You don’t have to be in the military to go help Ukraine fight... so y’all can just go. But don’t be offering up the lives of my loved ones or anyone else’s.... period. Also if it were us, we’d expect the help from countries that are part of NATO. The Ukraine is not part of NATO, which is why our troops don’t need to be fighting in this war. Humanitarian help I agree with. But joining a war that has nothing to do with us is stupid.

Girl I voted yes and I wish I could go back to the military to fight. My brother wants to go help so bad but unfortunately can't because his battalion is the only one left on base and the base needed them to stay behind. If it were us we would expect the help so why not help out another country?🤷🏼‍♀️

We don't need to declare war on Russia, no. Although our hand may be forced one day if they successfully take over Ukraine and try to invade a NATO nation next but I don't think that will happen because they have no support within their country and their military is pitiful. I do support providing all the humanitarian aid that we can and welcoming Ukrainian refugees.

No. Ukraine is not part of NATO and Russia has not attacked America. We have no reason to get involved militarily. It is not our fight.

I think the United States should let other countries handle their problems without Americans intervening

Ww2 happen because of the USA and a lot of other countries practicing isolationism. Let’s not make the same mistake again.

I think we should stay out of it for as long as we can. I don’t like everyone online so eagerly talking about offering up other people’s loved ones to go die in this. Those citizens we’d send to go fight are someone’s child, parent, sibling, etc. I’m not going to rush to say they should go risk their lives for war.

It’s a touchy subject and I can’t say for sure. Russia is committing a war crime by attacking areas with innocent civilians and the nuclear power plant. If you look at Nazi Germany, they grew as they did because no one got involved soon enough. The US didn’t get involved soon enough and they kept taking and taking. We didn’t get involved until it was too late because we didn’t want to be the “world police”. Once it becomes more than one country we are creeping closer to world war. Also, the US has a treaty with Ukraine stating that we will offer our support against external conflict if Ukraine agrees to not hold nuclear weapons of their own. Funny, Russia is part of that treaty too though. BUT, If we don’t follow that we our treaties look weak and illegitimate. We screwed ourselves on that one. It’s very complicated, that’s my answer.

I agree a lot with this. While I don’t want the US involved I am also concerned that if they do win over Ukraine will they just continue the invasion into other small countries? I’m very worried about what happens next

The unrealistic side of me would love to think it would be as simple as shutting down the Russian agenda with a military intervention from the rest of the world (not strictly a US investment alone) reducing the total loss of life and putting Russia in their place, like a gut check. It is not lost on me that women and children are being terrorized in their homes and war crimes are taking place. The realistic side of me knows it’s not for me to send other people’s family members into a war we have no obligation in. I think the US is correct in cutting ties in all ways with Russia and agreeing on sanctions placed to financially harm their war efforts. Strategically it could ultimately do more harm then good in the long game to be involved before it is warranted with our alliances.

No, we shouldn’t. That’s like saying “Hey Russia, let’s fucking fight!” and we shouldn’t do that unless Russia comes for us. 🥴
