What is the average cost to get family photos done by a professional photographer?

I contacted a local photographer about getting family photos done. She emailed me back and I was shocked to see that she quoted me $1100 for an hour long session. A few years ago when I had professional photos done by a different photographer, she only charged me $350 for the exact same time period. Her photos were amazing but she moved out of state. Is this new photographer trying to swindle me? Or has the price of family photos gone up that much? Her photos are nice but oh my god, not THAT nice.

Ask your local moms groups. Also look what is included. That seems like alot for an hour + prints.
I’m paying $350 for a maternity then newborn pictures.

The high end portrait studios where I am (chicago) start at $1000 and that's before framing.  These are places that have solid reputations and have been in business 50+ and some close to 100 years.  It's not just them taking a picture.  There's the cost of the equipment (cameras, lenses, lights), the editing (another set of equipemt) the plan prep and travel, the quality of paper/canvas/background the picture is printed on, etc.  There's way more that goes into it then just clicking a button.

A photographer i just booked normally have her lifestyle sessions (family) for 30 mins and all digitals release for $1200. In the Midwest.

I’d never pay a thousand dollars for photographs. You can buy a professional camera yourself for that. Not to diminish what photographers do but who does she think she is? Lol
