Can she do this? Was I wrong?

Question

Can a boss/manager change a employee’s schedule literally a hour before they are scheduled to come in without mentioning or asking them? 
She added a hour to the end of my shift this morning with even asking me and texted me like 4 minutes ago letting me know if customers was still coming in, I’m to stay and work that hour. I’m not mad about having to stay the extra hour, it’s she waited till the day of my shift. I texted her back and said “would of been nice to know earlier” and she said “just made the decision” was I wrong for texting that? I didn’t mean it in a attitude way or anything, but being honest I meant what it said.

There are usually company guidelines to schedule changes. I’d look into them. It’s completely understandable to be upset, and it’s irresponsible for your manager not to communicate with you earlier.

If they care about employee retention, satisfaction and long term successes then they won't do it.
If they are short sighted and careless, treating their employees like mindless cogs who live to serve with no outside life then they will happily do it.
Should they do it? NO
Should you tolerate it? Also no. If they do it once and get away with it, they will do it all the time. Your start and stop time is determined at hire or at the time the schedule is posted. Not a moment after it's made live. If adjustments are needed to be made, which happens, then the employee should be consulted in advance and ASKED if they can help out. Never just scheduled without prior notice.
My advice is to go in and work it since it's already in play. Then, at some point during the day, go in and speak with the offending manager. Respectfully and firmly let her know that you were happy to do this favor for her but in the future you will need advanced notice. Without notice, you will be unable to accommodate her requests. Then you take it one level higher by putting it in writing and submitting it to HR or to an upper manager/owner.
Don't allow them to play games with your personal time. It won't end well for you, for certain.  Protect yourself and your interests.

where i worked whatever schedule was posted and sent out is what we went by. if a manager wanted you to work different/extra hours after the schedule was posted then they had to ask and if that person didn't want to or couldn't then they didn't have to and couldn't be punished for not doing it since it was because of the manager's poor planning.
