7 month old gagging on food

My son is 7 months old and we started solid last month. He is still gagging on his food so I don't feed him consistently or everyday. We do purees so I know he's able to handle it. He'll be good for one feeding and then the next feeding he's gagging and loses interest. Mommas with experience, how long will this last? Should I be worried and bring it up next appointment? He is still getting plenty of breastmilk but I worry he won't learn how to eat if he keeps gagging on his food.
