O2 monitors

Hi everyone. I am a first time mom and wanted some help. One of my biggest fears is SIDS so I’m looking at O2 monitors for when baby is sleeping. Any suggestions? I wanted the Owlet but from my understanding the updated version doesn’t monitor their oxygen anymore and is more for sleeping patterns.

Honestly? Those monitors don’t do anything to prevent SIDS and have a lot of false alarms that can make your fears worse. If you want to truly do everything you can to precent SIDS, the best thing to do is follow safe sleep practices. That means baby sleeps in his own bassinet or crib, on a flat surface, no blankets or stuffed animals or crib bumpers. He gets laid down flat on his back. Keep baby in your room for the first 6-12 months (but not in your bed, in his own space as described). Breastfeed if possible for 6+ months. Get baby vaccinated with all recommended childhood immunizations. Don’t allow smokers in the home (even if they smoke outside - 3rd hand smoke is a real thing). Offer a pacifier.

They aren't recommended as they add something to the sleep space. Make sure you have a safe sleep space and the odds of SIDS are very low.

No recs, just FYI that the AAP and FDA have found no evidence that these types of monitors prevent or reduce SIDS. They’re actually more likely to produce false alarms and cause undue parental stress and worse sleep for babies.
