Fred Meyer/Kroger gift card issues?

I got a Fred Meyer red gift card for Christmas and misplaced it, well I found it today. Went online to check the balance (just to be sure) and it says it’s “invalid” I know it’s not used because the pin wasn’t scratched off yet… I did that today to check balance. Tried the Kroger website same thing, called the number on the back same thing … what the actual heck ? I tried some others I had that I used up and the website did work and said 0 balance but this one … it’s as if the card was sold but the money was never activated on it?
