Vaccines

Is there somewhere on this app I can talk with others about vaccines without it turning ugly? I am wanting to educate myself of all of my options to make the best decision for my children. Thanks!

To answer some of you- I am also talking with my pediatrician! But like one of you mentioned my world is very pro-vaccine and I’m just trying to find more information. Wasn’t hoping to get actual education here as much as suggestions for resources! Thx!

Why would you want the opinions of uneducated people on this topic?

This isn’t really the place to educate yourself on this topic. This app is just a bunch of people with opinions and anecdotes, for the most part. If you want to learn more on the topic, start with your doctor, other reputable medical professionals reputable medical journals…this is where you should be doing your “learning”.

I think no matter what you do, you’re going to get opinions. Vaccines are something a lot of people (both on and off the app) feel very strongly about. Also be careful of misinformation on here and talk to your kiddos’ doctor

This isn't the place for that. You need to speak with medical professionals. They are the only ones with real knowledge regarding vaccines.

I think it’s only the Covid vaccine that gets people all bent out of shape with each other. I would think most people think it’s reasonable that you would want to discuss and think about health decisions you make for your child. Other parents can share resources from different doctors as well as their own experiences, and this is not a bad place to do that. I have asked questions on here and have received helpful information :)Vaccines in general and your choices around them shouldn’t be controversial. It’s a parent’s choice, and what parent doesn’t want to make it informed choice for their child? They are always adding new vaccines for kids, and it doesn’t hurt to ask questions about them or the vaccine schedule or anything else. Personally I will be getting my son vaccinated but I am going to choose a different schedule recommended by my doctor so that his immune system is not bombarded with too many substances at once to reduce side effects and possible risks which obviously can happen for some babies. Also there are different brands of each vaccine and some of the brands have more added ingredients in and extra chemicals that just aren’t necessary and aren’t in the same vaccine from other brands. I am allergic to methylparaben, and that ingredient is a preservative in some vaccines but not others. Because I have that allergy and I don’t know if my child will, that’s an example of one thing that I might see if I can get a different brand vaccine to give to my son to avoid a potential allergic reaction. :)

And I agree with all the other commenters that obviously you want to speak with your doctor primarily about health decisions for your child, but I wasn’t assuming that you thought you should take other peoples opinions as medical advice. Sometimes it is nice to hear what other people‘s experiences were and what their doctor shared with them!

There is a reason doctors are pro vaccine - research has shown that their benefits outweigh the risks. Trust your doctors. Anecdotes (good or bad) do not carry the same weight as peer reviewed research.

talk to your doctor about vaccines, not strangers.

Your pediatrician isn’t exactly a rocket scientist on the vaccine topic either. They get some training and that’s it. There are SOME who stay up to date and are aware of cases, case studies, etc. they can be hard to find. It’s not like you call and the receptionist can answer that. You might do better at a holistic doctor or a family doctor because they are more lax on LEARNING vs telling you what to do

It is traumatizing when an older child gets caught up on vaccines. There is a reason they administer them when they're young. Just something else to think about

Your best resource is your child’s doctor. If you don’t trust them to give you information, it’s time to find another doctor.
