Having some concerns
Tl;dr- my breakthrough bleeding has gotten so obviously concerning I have to stop taking my birth control in general, and not because my healthcare provider cared enough to give me the information I needed.
I started the mini pill back in January because of my boyfriend at the time pressuring me into it, despite knowing my fears of the side effects. I was told I couldn't take the pill due to my chronic migraines, so the mini pill was prescribed to me. And at first, other than the initial adjustment, there wasn't anything concerning.
Now, looking back on it, I started having a lot of sensory issues that I have now been told are a little concerning. But more importantly, the breakthrough bleeding. I'm aware it's normal, but still wanted to reach out to my provider about the extent of my side effects. They were insistent I had to keep taking it, even as the adjustment period is ending. No suggestions on taking a break or anything. Just to keep taking it.
I got a second opinion a few weeks later as I had bled for 4 days, off for 4, bled for 4 more days, off for 4, and at that point, was on a third day of bleeding. They told me that due to the consistency, and lack of the breakthrough bleeding slowing down I should see someone in person. I fully plan on doing so when I can, but no one had told me to stop taking my birth control. Just based on the consistency of the bleeding, and my other symptoms, that it was starting to seem concerning, and that I should have an evaluation.
My provider after 2 weeks of insisting I keep taking it tells me when I'm supposed to receive my next shipment of pills that due to "health safety reasons," they can't send them to me anymore. After telling me I had to keep taking it. Which was extremely frustrating, but more so that I hadn't even told them the breakthrough bleeding got worse.
I'm on day 8 of bleeding where it's only gotten heavier, and I'm finally going to stop taking it. Not because anyone told me to, but because based on the research I've done, this is actually extremely concerning. I've logged all of the days of bleeding, when they've started and stopped, and plan on sharing this with the gynecologist when I finally have the time to see them.
Sometimes, you know what's best for your body, even if other people insist you should do something else. The lack of consistency on my providers end, and giving me any real solutions was the worst part. I wanted to share this in case anyone else was struggling with a side effect that doesn't seem normal. Mine definitely stopped being normal the second I was told it was too consistent, and has now exceeded the limit in terms of how long it's lasting to be normal.
Trust your gut. Don't let it get as bad as it did for me. Don't automatically freak out either. Just make sure you're aware of what's normal, and what isn't. And then, find what should be normal for you
