baby gagging on spit??

so my baby is 4 weeks old and just randomly started choking and gagging, i grabbed the suction bulb thing and sucked his mouth but all that was in there was spit?! 
he sounded raspy until i got all the spit out and he screamed til i was done but now he’s fine and sleeping on my chest. i’m a first time mom and EVERYTHING scares me 😩😩 anyone else had this problem with their babies?? and what was the issue?

This happened to my boy, the spit was very string and we had to suction it out. There was one time he turned very red and was not breathing. It was like he forgot how to swallow and breath.  My doctor said he was most likely being over fed and it's normal to produce more of a mucousy consistency of saliva when drinking milk ( for children or adults).  My boy will eat forever and will not stop even when he's full, so I just offered one breast at each feeding from then on and we haven't had any more issues 🤷‍♀️
This was just my experience! It seems to pass with time once they have better control over their swallowing reflex.

My boy chokes on his spit fairly often. Right now he’s teething so there’s a ton of drool so it happens more often than it used to. If he’s laying down I just sit him up, let him cough it out and monitor him. I don’t worry too much as long as he’s breathing and returns to his happy self.

As previous post said, maybe just choked on saliva as a one off. But if it keeps happening or is more prevalent following a feed, it could be silent reflux.

Maybe he just had a build up of saliva and then it went down weird. At 4 weeks old they do a bunch of weird things. Always good to ask your dr if you’re concerned at all though.
