He’s just confused me

So me and my partner have broken up, he came to see me on the weekend. We ended up having a very deep conversation about somethings it got heated, no arguments just heated and passionate on both sides, both came to the conclusion that we both want different things right now, I then said maybe we should just stop speaking and leave it here he agreed. Ok that’s done, he left the Saturday then today I received a message from him saying what are you doing the 25th April week? I want to lawnmower your garden and cut it back for me and my child. He doesn’t want to have problems, talk about the past nor have any funny business, this here has confused me because I thought this here was done and it’s best we don’t talk anymore. Why would he send that text message?

EDIT - he never offered to do my garden when we was together, he asked me to show my garden to him one time and I sent it and asked why? are you wanting to do it for me lol and he said no, i just wanted to see what it looks like in this weather. I said oh ok I’m getting at gardener to do it anyway. But now we aren’t together he now wants to help etc
