Babbling?

My 9 month old hasn't really started "chatting" yet. He makes an ahh sound and ha  but that about it. Occasionally he will open and close his mouth as if to say ba ba ba but doesn't make sound so he looks like a fish 😂 
I guess my question is, when should i check in with a dr about him not starting to form other sounds and words (mama, dada, bub, etc.)

Not until a year old so you have time. By 12 months, your LO should be saying around 5-10 words and refer to the object like “mama” and mean you.. “dada” and mean dad. Also your LO will make up his own words and that’s fine. Whatever your LO decides to call someone or something, like “gaga” for pacifier or “boodoo” for a favorite toy… those items count as words regardless if it is the “proper” name for the object. The idea is your LO understands name association and can form the word that “they” use to refer to that object over and over again. If your LO calls everything mama then it’s not name association. If only you are mama and other noises/words are used for other things, then your LO has officially learned your name 😍 .. keep in mind a baby does not articulate words like we do. It’s alll gibberish baby talk and will be for a long time but that doesn’t mean they aren’t talking.

Do they have a pacifier? If so try letting them play without it. I find my little one is way more talkative when she doesn’t have her pacifier in and she’s playing.
